How many years can a debt collector collect?

Fernando

Hello Fernando,

Read: Credit Reporting Limits & Statute of Limitations

A debt collector can theoretically attempt to collect a debt indefinitely; however, there are limits to how long the collection can be listed on your credit report and there exists a statute of limitations with regards to lawsuits.

So, a debt collector can attempt to collect a debt indefinitely; but when the reporting and relevant statute of limitations has run and the consumer sends a debt collector cease communication, then it makes continued collection impractical.

Thanks for the questions and hope this helps.

Paul
