Arizona Judgment

I just went on the county court site and found out that I have 2 judements against me here in Arizona. I know that I have paid one of them off and I was wondering do they stay on your credit report even when you pay them off and for how long. Also I was wondering if there is anything I can do to fix that.

Hi Jackie,

Per the FCRA, a judgment will remain seven years from the date of entry (not the date it was paid) or until the governing statute of limitations has run – whichever is the longer period.  In Arizona, there is a five-year statute of limitations for domestic judgments that can be renewed five years at a time indefinitely.  Theoretically, a judgment in Arizona could remain on a credit report indefinitely if the creditor continued to renew the judgment.  If the judgment was rendered by the courts of another state and filed in an Arizona court then it would be considered a foreign judgment and subject to a non-renewable four year statute of limitations.

Jackie, it sounds like at least one of these judgments was a surprise to you.  Was it a default judgment?  Some say farewell to judgments.

Thanks for the questions and hope this helps.

Paul
