I have some old paid off credit cards that I cancelled a few years back. The payment history on these cards was less than perfect. I believe that the creditors were supposed to erase this from my file, since I agreed to pay them in full, so I disputed them. These accounts were not in collections. Will their deletion affect my score positively or negatively?

Stump the Experts? You must forgive me for my liberal use of the word expert. Still – no matter how you slice and dice it – Dale and I do have a combined fifty-five years of experience in the mortgage biz and that means we’ve looked at a bazillion credit reports. So if you have any questions about mortgages or credit reports then fire away!
By the way, it’s so much easier to answer a question from a visitor that clicks on “Stump The Experts” than it is to create a new blog article from scratch. This year, I’ve developed a whole new appreciation for the authors of blogs out there. I’m mumbling Broken Credit blog articles in my sleep. Credit repair mortgage repair credit repairing – excuse me. See what I mean?
So I dare ya. I double dare ya!

If a credit report is lacking at least three active tradelines, then somehow they’ll need to be added. The problem of course, is that applying for new credit, at a time when a credit score has been clobbered by bad credit, may seem daunting, if not altogether hopeless – it feels as though one must already have good credit to get new credit. Take courage, dear readers, there’s no need to feel this way. The Broken Credit Blog has a solution to this bad credit dilemma and that be in the form of secured credit cards. Let’s take a closer look at how secured credit cards can help to counter the effects of bad credit. (more…)
