Collection Agency Didn’t Follow Through….Yet!
I received a written agreement for a collection agency to delete an entry when paid. I paid the collection but the entry was not deleted from my credit report. It has been over 2 years ago and it is still on Equifax. The collection agency says that they cannot make the credit reporting agency delete it. It is my belief that the collection agency just did not inform them. Who do I contact for help in enforcing this agreement? I am from the state of Missouri.
Thanks,
John

Hello John,
The collection agency can delete its own tradeline by entering Metro Status code DA in Base Segment Field 17A. I’d suggest advising them of that and if that doesn’t work then advise them of the definition of a “Credit Repair Organization” per Sect. 403(3) of the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA):
“means any person who uses any instrumentality of interstate commerce or the mails to sell, provide, or perform (or represent that such person can or will sell, provide, or perform) any service, in return for the payment of money or other valuable consideration, for the express or implied purpose of– improving any consumer’s credit record, credit history, or credit rating”
I’d send a copy of the pay for delete letter to the debt collector along with a copy of the CROA by CMRRR. That should do it!
Thanks for the questions and hope this helps.
Paul
