Delete for Payment

I have a requestion regarding delete for payment. I have some collection matters on my credit report that are well over 24 months old and a new one from a Satelite Network that I thought had been paid in full. I have attempted to negotiate a delete for payment and have been told that they are unable to do that but can only show status as settled or as paid. I was told that it will affect my credit worse if I settle versus paying the matter in full. My questions are as follows:

1. If I can not negotiate a delete for payment for matters older than 24 months will it do me any good to settle these.

2. If I can not negotiate a delete for payment for matters under 24 months will it raise my score to settle them and if I settle for less than the full amount, will it affect my credit if it reads settled and not paid in full?
Whew!!!! Thanks so much. I am trying so hard to get my credit repaired from a time when my husband lost his job and it just seems immpossible at times.

Hi Cyndi,

Paying or settling an old collection (over two years) typically reduces a credit score.  From a credit score standpoint, pay for delete is the only way to go.

If it’s more recent than two-years, then you’ll see an improvement in the score through paying (or settling) it, but I’d still want a pay for delete regardless.  And I’m still looking into a pay for delete-inator service.  Hey, that’s a cool name for it!  The pay for delete-inator!

Thanks for the questions and hope it helps.
