I Forgot My BK Credit Repair Checkup
My husband and I went chapter 7 in 3/2003 and it was discharged in 09/2003. Since our bankruptcy we pay all of our bills early and have never been late. We have gotten a few credit cards that are payed off each month and a mortgage and car payment. Our problem is that we can’t get our credit score higher than 640. Do you have any advice on how to raise it higher?
Thank you for your time.

Hi Raemarie,
It’s best to complete bankruptcy credit repair as soon after discharge as possible. The longer you wait, the less potential credit score rejuvenation. For example, a tradeline discharged in bankruptcy and improperly listing a balance owed, may be corrected to show ‘included in bankruptcy’ today, but have a current date of status added to the file. Similar to paying an old collection – empirical evidence suggests that FICO picks up on this date and weakens the effect of the correction.
Hey Raemarie, a credit score of 640 is not too shabby.
