Reestablishing Credit

In the past year I’ve payed off 2 accounts that were in collections, and I’m paying off another 2 right now that also went to collection.

My questions is can I get the compaines to re-age the accounts that I’m now paying off, and how do I get the credit bureaus like Expreian and Transunion to “take off” the negative credit from when I wasn’t making payments to the accounts?

Also my credit report states that not having an active credit card looks bad, what credit cards do you suggest for people with bad credit to help re-build their credit?

Hi Diana,

Re-aging applies to the original creditor’s tradeline and not to an outside collection agency’s entry.  Typically, you will need to contact your credit card company at a time when you are in default and have them agree to re-age the account once you have made three on-time payments.  I would suggest to anyone that they first get something in writing from the credit card company prior to making the payments; it will be tougher to accomplish after-the-fact.

Can you remove paid collection accountsOld paid debt.

Secured credit cards are a great way to estabish revolving tradelines and begin building a better credit history and higher FICO score.  The secured solution.

Thanks for the questions and hope this helps.

Paul
