Split File on Equifax

Hi Paul,

First of all thank you so much for this site i have been reading through it and it is very helpful.

I have a question about the split credit report. You say in several places that it is not good if that happends. Why is it such a bad thing? How does it affect ones credit?

Also you said that by “Bumping” credit inquires, that a split credit report may occure what are the factors that make a split credit report happen and how can it be avoided if you are bumping?  If it does happen how is it fixed?

Thank you so mucn for your help,
George

Hello George,

A split file on Equifax will move some of your tradelines to one file and the rest to another.  You’ll have two Equifax credit reports and credit scores and you’ll never know which one a potential creditor may view.

As in the case of bumping, a split file can be caused by excessive soft inquiries from checking your own credit report.  To avoid this, you would need to stop checking your credit report and opt-out when most of the creditor inquiries have been bumped off your report.

A split file can be fixed by calling Equifax and explaining that you have a split file.  Something about that doesn’t sound entertaining to me.

Thanks for the questions and hope this helps.

Paul
