Your Wish Is Granted
I have a question that is actually about government grants. I have been to numerous sites on grants and have received even more phone calls saying they can gaurentee me a grant if i just send the hundreds of dollars before hand. Are there really grants for first time home buyers and if so where do i go or what do i do? Thank you for your help on our credit issues. We just got our first credit card to start building us credit!

Hi Heidi,
Yes, there absolutely positively are government grants for first time home buyers (FTHB). There are also government grants available for non-FTHBs. Contact your county or local municipality for the agency in charge of administering government grants in your area. Do not apply for any grant that requires an upfront fee. If there is a charge for the grant, then any legitimate grant program will take the fee out of the proceeds at closing. Every day I receive emails telling me I’ve won millions and I’m sure responding to them would only require I pay a few hundred dollars to claim my prize. Bad news; don’t do it.
Heidi, it’s funny you should ask about grants, as the Broken Credit Blog is in the process of establishing a website that showcases properties that are government grant eligible. We are currently adding inventory to the website and are welcoming mortgage brokers who share our values to participate and add properties in their geographic area. Soon we will have a place where everyone who wants to buy, will be able to do so and receive one or more of the following:
seller paid closing costs
Mortgage brokers who are interested in participating are welcome to email the Broken Credit Blog. This is a totally free service and a solution to the housing woes. We’re looking at properties that are priced $250,000 or less. Did I mention it was free?
Thanks for the questions and hope this helps.
Paul
